Shedeur Sanders: Travis Hunter 'Deserves' 2024 Heisman, He's the 'Best Player in CFB'
October 2, 2024
Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders believes his teammate, two-way star Travis Hunter, deserves the Heisman Trophy.
Sanders made those remarks on the latest edition of his 2Legendary podcast (2:30 mark) when asked about Hunter's Heisman celebration following an interception in a 48-21 win over UCF last Saturday.
"I feel like Trav deserve it," Sanders began. "He is the best player in college football. Not one of the best, he is the best player in college football, and I think a lot of people take him for granted in what he's been able to do. And a lot of people tell him what he can't do. Which is wrong, which I don't believe in personally. If he's going in each year after year, drive after drive, play after play, proving himself every game, so at this point, you should already expect that from Trav. He has greatness in him, and each and every game he's able to showcase it in different ways."
Colorado went into Orlando as a heavy 13.5-point underdog to UCF but emerged as four-touchdown victors largely because of Hunter, who finished with nine catches for 89 yards and a score while adding an interception on defense.
For the season, Hunter (at wide receiver) leads the Buffaloes with 46 receptions, 561 yards and six touchdowns. On defense, Hunter (at cornerback) has 15 tackles, two interceptions, three pass breakups and one forced fumble.
And Hunter now stars for a 4-1 Colorado team currently riding a three-game win streak.
Hunter is certainly in the Heisman discussion given his impressive two-way play. His biggest problem is that he's not a quarterback, a position that's earned the trophy all but four years since 2000.
In addition, Hunter's case would be boosted by Colorado continuing its winning ways and making a run at the Big 12 title. The Buffaloes only got one vote in the latest Top 25 Associated Press poll but should get more national love with a home victory over No. 20 Kansas State on Saturday, Oct. 12 following a bye week. Kickoff is set for 10:15 p.m. ET.
